Genesis 3 Opening Scene: A snake, a woman and some forbidden fruit. What could possibly go wrong?

Sin

It all started with a question – just one little question, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from all the trees of the garden?,'” said the serpent to the woman (Genesis 3:1).

What was satan (the serpent) really asking Eve – Is God holding out on you? Do we feel the same today? This is what I see and hear sometimes that seems to answer the question with a definite YES:

  • I can live my life any way I want to live it.
  • Don’t tell me there are consequences for the way I live.
  • I can be the god of my own life.
  • I don’t need God telling me what to do.
  • I’ll pray to the universe and get whatever I want.
  • I’ll do it better than God ever could.
  • Don’t tell me I’m a sinner.

Satan’s goals in Isaiah 14:12-16:

  • I will ascend to heaven.
  • I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.
  • I will sit upon the mount of meeting.
  • I will ascend above the high places of the clouds.
  • I will make myself like God Most High.

See any similarities? The biggest similarity of course is thinking that we can be or make ourselves to be like God. Oh, how satan deceives this world (Revelation 12:9).

So what am I really trying to say? First, we can’t be like God because we are created by God (Genesis 5:2Acts 17:26, Jeremiah 27:5). Second, He doesn’t give us everything because everything we want may not be good for us (1 Corinthians 10:23, Isaiah 55:8). Third, we need to stop listening to satan and his lies (John 8:44).

God loves you (John 3:16). He doesn’t want you to be deceived by satan (2 Corinthians 4:4). He freely gives salvation through Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah (Romans 3:23-24).

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. They are set right as a gift of His grace, through the redemption that is in Messiah Yeshua. – Romans 3:23-24 TLV

For if you confess with your mouth that Yeshua (Jesus) is Lord, and believe in your heart
that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. – Romans 10:9 TLV

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not from yourselves—it is the gift of God. It is not based on deeds, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9 TLV

Accept God’s gift!
