Scripture Focus: You adulteresses [disloyal sinners—flirting with the world and breaking your vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend [that is, loving the things of the world] is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. – James 4:4 AMP
Do we, as Christians, think about the things we participate in that on the surface don’t seem all that bad but God may see it differently? Since, we are only a couple of weeks away from Halloween – God has really brought some things to mind that I have been participating in that He doesn’t find pleasing.
The first is Halloween – it has always been a part of pagan worship and culture. It’s history is dark and twisted (I will focus more on this in a future post) riddled with demonic practices. I know there are a lot of churches that instead of celebrating Halloween they will have Fall Festivals or Harvest Festivals – just because you slapped a new name on it doesn’t make it Christian or acceptable to God. And honestly, it is still trying to be a part of this dark and lost world. We cannot be serving God and love the things of the world at the same time. We have to make a choice – love God or love the world!
And now I see more and more people in the U.S. taking part in the festival in Mexico called Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead with its sugar skulls – celebrated on October 31, November 1st and 2nd. It has lots of similarities to Halloween – the returning of the dead.
And what does scripture say about the returning of the dead?
The dead do not live—dead souls do not rise. Thus You punished and destroyed them
and wiped out all memory of them. – Isaiah 26:14 TLV
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing.
They have no further reward, even the memory of them is forgotten. – Ecclesiastes 9:5 TLV
For me, I will no longer be a part of things that are against God and His word.
So let’s continue, how many of us look at our astrology signs, practice yoga, watch horror movies, watch demonic TV shows, play violent video games, go on ghost tours (I’ve done this in Savannah, GA) and even buy foods and drinks from companies that have demonic logos? Let’s try this from another angle? So, if Yeshua (Jesus) actually knocked on your door and said let’s spend time together today – would He participate in these activities? Now, I’m not saying He wouldn’t stay and talk to you but would He engage in those activities? If your Jesus would participate in these activities – we aren’t talking about the same Jesus!
We are in this world but not a part of it and neither is Yeshua (Jesus)!
But now I am coming to You; and I say these things [while I am still] in the world so that they may experience My joy made full and complete and perfect within them [filling their hearts with My delight]. I have given to them Your word [the message You gave Me]; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world and do not belong to the world, just as I am not of the world and do not belong to it. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but that You keep them and protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth [set them apart for Your purposes, make them holy]; Your word is truth. – John 17:13-17 AMP
You adulteresses [disloyal sinners—flirting with the world and breaking your vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend [that is, loving the things of the world] is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. – James 4:4 AMP
Pure and unblemished religion [as it is expressed in outward acts] in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the [secular] world. – James 1:27 AMP
The truth is – we can’t serve God and be a part of the world at the same time. One will take precedence over the other. The choice is yours…
God is Truth and satan is the deceiver!
